Zdravniški vestnik / Slovenian Medical Journal is the professional journal of Slovene medicine, and is published by the Slovenian Medical Association. As the only national journal of medicine, it is intended to perform the following tasks:
The first number was published on 24.1.1929, and the first editor was Franc Derganc. It initially ceased publication during World War II, because of the cultural silence, but in 1944/45 published 10 numbers of Partizanski zdravstveni vestnik (Partisan Medical Journal). After the war, it was published as Zdravstveni vestnik. Miroslav Kališnik and Stanislav Mahkota ensured international recognition through their editorial work, in which they embedded bio-medical information and international standards, including review systems.
Journal is currently edited by Saša Markovič, Editor-in-Chief; Matija Cevc, Responsible Editor.
Editors: Uroš Ahčan, Tit Albreht, Bojana Beovič, Maja Bresjanac, Ksenija Geršak, Andreja Kocijančič and Damian Miklavčič.
It is published in editions of 4350 copies, normally 14 number during the year totalling around 900 pages. Zdravniški vestnik-Slovenian Medical Journal regularly indexes and/or abstracts: Science Citation Index Expanded, Journal Citation Reports/Scienece Edition, CABI-Global Health, PubMed, COBISS, Biomedicina Slovenica.
